Someone Needs the Light You Have!

The Back Story

The vision of Act Now is to see the church break down walls, get outside of the congregational bubble and serve the community like Jesus did. While many needs can be met with money, the goal was not to “throw dollars” at the needy but to roll up sleeves and work alongside them or for them, building relationships that allow us to share the gospel both in words and in our actions.

By expanding Act Now to a citywide effort and beyond, we can also break down the walls between Bible-based churches and serve without any agenda or territorialism and simply share the love of Christ. Act Now is a HUB of area ministry resources for volunteers.

Act Now:
Somebody Needs the Light You Have

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” ~
Matthew 5:14

Bringing Act Now to your congregation

Bringing Act Now to your church is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

1. Join the network. Can you embrace something that inspires your congregation to serve? Can you get excited about your church being part of a citywide effort to “be the church”? Join the partnering churches who use Act Now as a ministry HUB for Kingdom impact by completing the simple application.

2. Promote the opportunities to do more hands-on ministry in the area through the Act Now website to your congregation. No need to change the ministry you’re currently doing; just promote Act Now to your folks. When your people go to the website, they will see ministries and specific volunteer opportunities. We’ve even got a handy bulletin insert you can print and distribute with little effort.

3. Pass along any other ministries your church is working alongside to be added to the Act Now network. This opens doors for even more volunteers to help them! Someone from your church who is already working with the ministry or agency should serve as the liaison.

• Have the pastor preach on service and encourage participation. Members tend to follow their leader.

• Plan a church-wide effort to engage as many people as possible and get everyone excited. This could be a service day with all the ministries or a large in-house ingathering effort touching all ministries. Things like Angel Tree, Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes or thanksgiving food baskets are great options. We can help with other ideas.

• Engage the Sunday school/LIFE groups, introducing them individually to the program and asking them to choose one ministry to adopt as a class and serve. Have them choose a contact person for each class to report on service.

Partnering Ministry Requirements

Partnering Ministry Requirements

1. A ministry must allow the (soft) sharing of the Gospel (the organization is NOT required to be Christian based).

2. A ministry must be a service to the physically, emotionally or psychologically needy in the Lubbock area.

3. A ministry’s purpose must be in agreement with biblical truth.

4. A ministry must provide hands-on involvement and action for volunteers (not just wanting money). This means well organized entry-points of action to connect volunteers to serve.

5. A ministry will be a 501c3 or have its own governance or have its own website that is outside of a local church.

6. A ministry must be recommended by an ActNow partnering church that is already engaged in ministry there in order for it to be put on the ActNow website. The ministry may also link Act Now off their own website.

*A yearly reaffirmation of commitment to ActNow will be required.

    Statement of Faith

    ActNow stands on:

    The Inspiration of the Bible:
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
(Jer. 30:2; II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20,21)

    The Person of God:
We believe God is supreme in His person, eternal in His being, absolute in His attributes, glorious in His perfection. We believe in the Trinity.
    (Gen. 1:1; Isa. 6:1; Deut. 6:4; Matt. 6:9)

    The Person of Jesus Christ:

We believe in the virgin birth of Christ, His deity and sinless life, His vicarious death, His bodily resurrection, and in His personal return.
    (Matt. 1:18,20; II Cor. 5:21; I Cor. 15:3-4)

The Person of the Holy Spirit:
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Godhead. We believe that He executes the plan of God for our conviction and salvation. From the time of conversion, the Holy Spirit resides in the body of the believer and empowers him/her for His service. (Col. 2:9; Matt. 10:16; John 14:16)

    The Salvation of Sinners:

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. (Eph. 2:8,9; John 3:16; John 5:24; John 3:36)
